Our Campaign Chair: Ms. Danièle Henkel

danielle-henkelMs. Danièle Henkel is Chair of the Major Gifts Campaign for Espace danse in the Wilder Building, and is supported by a committee. A renowned businesswoman and Founding President of Entreprises Danièle Henkel, Ms. Henkel holds the distribution rights for Équipements LPG, a line of medical/esthetic treatment devices. A former advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to Algeria, she is perhaps best known for her role as a “dragon” on the Radio-Canada program Dans l’œil du dragon, which promotes entrepreneurship in Québec. Ms. Henkel has agreed to carry the torch for the $25.8 million fundraising campaign to support the local community and the dance world, here and abroad.

A campaign committee was put together to oversee outreach and solicitation efforts for the Espace danse campaign as well as for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Tangente, the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal and Agora de la danse. The four organizations will be moving into the new premises, a showcase for dance in the heart of Montreal’s Quartier des spectacles district.

One address, the best of dance.

A flagship for the dance community, the project Espace danse will enrich the Quartier des spectacles, an exceptional showcase for creativity in Montreal, Quebec and Canada, in addition to enhancing the quality of life of Montreal citizens.

The cost of project, including installations and equipment, is estimated at $99.2 million, excluding the office fittings for the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications, the Régie du cinéma and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, which will also be housed in the Wilder Building.

The government of Canada has contributed $7 million, while the Quebec government has granted $66.4 million. The four dance organizations, which must contribute to the project’s total cost, have launched a joint fundraising campaign with a target of $25.8 million, for which they have already raised $13 million (48% of the objective).

To ensure the success of Espace danse, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Tangente, the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal and Agora de la danse are now appealing to the generosity of private donors who recognize the importance of supporting the arts and culture, and the crucial role they play in the development of Montreal and Quebec.

We bring to your attention that a fundraising campaign in Montreal is currently happening to encourage the establishment of a new artistic destination. Whether you are beginners, professional dancers, or dance enthusiasts, you’ll be pleased to learn that a new project is about to materialize. However, we need your generosity to contribute to its realization.
Soon, several dance schools in Montreal, such as Tangente and the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, will become one. Indeed, they will come together as a single identity at the Espace dance of the Wilder Building, in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles. This is not only a new address, but also a proof of recognition of the talents in the performing arts in Montreal.
The new space the Espace Danse of the Wilder Building will offer will be fully adapted to the needs of the artists. Dancers, choreographers, and dance fans see their creative possibilities multiply thanks to the new technologies that will be offered.
The Quartier des spectacles will also benefit from this new art space, since the Espace Danse will not go unnoticed. External projections and restaurants will attract over 50 000 visitors! This place will be open to everyone.
Although the governments of Quebec and Canada have demonstrated philanthropy, fundraising is still needed to fund the project. Therefore, to make this project possible, several fundraising campaigns are now active in Montreal.
We therefore call the entire Quebec population for philanthropy to donate and help raise funds.
You want to donate for the Grands Ballets Canadiens fundraising? You have an idea of sponsorships that would participate in the fundraising campaign for the Agora de la danse? You have questions about the current project?
Do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to explain the process that will create an incredible new art showcase in Montreal.
Participate in the outreach of dance and help us with our fundraising campaign in Montreal.
